Hermina Borgerink describes Safran du Gātinais as a synthetic. It's natural 
saffron also - a particular geographic origin often specified in histology, for 
no reason I know of. I don'tt think a synthetic form of the dye has been 
made. Sounds like a job for Dick Dapson at Anatech.
