RE: Breast Tissue

From:Fred Underwood

Hi Histolady. I will refer you to volume 23, number 1 of JOH, March 2000. The article is alcohol/xylene: the unlikely fixative/dehydrant/clearant. It deals with using a dehydrant solution that is 70% absolute alcohol and 30% xylene ( 5-6 changes of this) then clear with xylene and into paraffin.

I swithched to this schedule 2 years ago. I deal with some pretty decent size chunks of tissue, and they process quite well with this. Good luck.

Fred

Subject: Breast Tissue

Does anyone out there in histoland have any suggestions for fatty breast
tissue processing? We are having a terrible time getting some of our breast
tissue fixed well. Thanks in advance for your responses.
