More questions on DNA staining

From:"Johnson, Teri"

What fixative is recommended for the Feulgen stain in
paraffin-embedded tissue? Carson recommends any fixative
except Bouins, Humason recommends a fixative containing
Mercuric chloride (but offers a splendid chart for
hydrolysis times according to alternate fixatives),
and Kiernan recommends avoiding picric acid and
any acid decalcifiers. Because I'm not tied to
routinely fixed (10% NBF) tissues, I can use
whatever is optimal.

Which is...?

I suspect the same fixative agent should be used
regardless of technique (fluorescence vs.feulgen).
