Recycling formalin, alcohol, xylene recycle with a CBG

From:Barbara Stancel

Hi Margaret,

Try www.cbgbiotech.com website to see pictures and read about their the
units.

We also have two CBG recyclers, one for xylene and one for ETOH. We love'em.
I can't give you specifics on how much they save us because we have been
recycling for 12 years and our lab dynamics have changed since we began.

Twelve years ago, I ordered 15 gallons of xylene a month and about 25
gallons of ETOH a month. We had one tissue processor and one stainer. We
generated 25 to 40 gallons of solvent waste. Then we got our first
recyclers.

Since then, our work load has quadrupled....with another increase in the
next few months.

Now, we change our two VIP's once a week and rotate our stainer & special
stain solutions several times a week. And in the past year, we have
increased our immuno to about 400-450 slides per week. We recycle all of
our xylene and almost all of the alcohols (except xylene contaminated ETOH
and alcohols less than 50%). I order 4 gallons of xylene every 6-8 weeks and
15 gallons of 100% ETOH every 4-5 weeks. We make all of our lesser grades of
ETOH from the recycled ETOH which is usually 94-98%. As for our waste
stream......we generate 15-20 gallons of solvent waste every 6-8 weeks.
I think the reductions in solvent purchase and solvent waste are
significant.!!!!

There are alot of "believers" out here that will atest to the greatness of
automatic recyclers!

Histologically yours,
