Re: Survery - distilled water pH

From:Laurie Reilly

G'day All,
Distilled water will absorb carbon dioxide and other gases from the air. The dissolved gas forms acid and this will drop the pH.
( Have you noticed the bitter taste of "soda water"?) So the pH of distilled water will vary according to if, and for how long, it has been exposed to air. I have just tested ours and it is pH 5.

                 Regards,   Laurie.

Hi all, I was wondering what the pH of the distilled water in your lab is. Seems there is some variability, but would like to see what the range is.

Thanks
