I have used both machines with great success.  My personal preference is the
VIP 5.  It's hard to argue with proven reliability.  Sakura had to stop
making parts for the old VIP's for us to upgrade, and the new model doesn't
seem that much different. 
In all fairness though, Leica has a good product.  I'm just spoiled by the
VIP's history of RELIABILITY.
Hope this helps in your decision, and no I do not work for Sakura.
