I wholeheartedly endorse the DAKO immunostainer.  It's an open system,
allowing you to vary dilutions, incubation times, etc., within the same
staining run, if need be.  It stains 48 slides per run, and you can see it
work (the slides are visible on linear racks, instead of being housed
beneath the reagents).  The system is optimized to use DAKO reagents, but it
is not mandatory.  The DAKO technical service is excellent.
