The only time that happened to my old "820" i found that the spring loaded
arm which places a "pin" in contact with the notched wheel had lifted out
of alignment.  Set the advance back as far as it will go, using the wheel
on the left side of the microtome,lift up the grey housing to get inside
the microtome, and then re-cock the spring loaded arm.  Andra Erickson, UW
