Basic dyes often bind to glass but can be removed with
an acid wash or with bleach. Alcian blue staining cannot 
be removed from glass without rubbing, which isn't really 
on the cards for a pH electrode. I don't know if it
affects the performance.

Gold chloride (i.e. chloroaurate) solutions are said to
damage pH electrodes (I read it somewhere years ago), and
I'd guess that any silver solution that tends to form
mirrors would also be bad news (ammoniacal silvers, physical
developers and similar).
