We do not currently charge for patient's recuts that are going to other institutions for treatment (though we are looking at that possibility). We DO however charge lawyers for recuts, unstained slides, special stains and immunohistochemistry.....we charge by the slide....I always send an itemized bill along with the slides and they just issue a check to our institution.

Is anyone charging for recuts that are sent to other facilities at the
patient's request? These are either second opinions or a large treatment
facility that wants the slides. We were sending our original H&Es to the
treatment facilities but we were not getting our slides back. We are doing
a large number of recuts and it is not reflected in the workload report as
only billable tests are reported. Also is anyone charging lawyers' offices
for recuts that are "requested" by a subpoena? If you are charging for
either of the two situations what dollar amount are you charging. Do you
charge per slide or per case? All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
