For our slides we use an art pencil made by Sanford.  It is a Prismacolor
brand in the color of indigo blue.  It works well, doesn't wipe off and
survives the staining procedure.   Sheila

I wonder if you also use this same pen for writing the numbers on the
slides also.  We tried this and it did work OK on the tissue cassettes but
did not stay on the slides.
