Position  description:
The Center for Comparative Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine offers
a
unique opportunity to the right candidate to join the professional team
in
the Centeris Comparative Pathology laboratory working as a histologic
technician or research technician or research associate under the
supervision of a board certified veterinary pathologist.  The individual

will be responsible for the technical preparation of tissues from
laboratory
animals used for quality assurance, diagnostic, and research purposes.

Basic skills must include: animal necropsy and tissue trim-in, routine
paraffin processing and microtomy, routine and special staining,
automated
and manual immunohistochemistry (brightfield and fluorescent), cryotomy,
and
enzyme histochemistry.  The individual will be proficient in gross and
microscopic tissue identification and be knowledgeable in the proper use
of
the microscope.

Must be able to work with minimal supervision, interact on a
professional
and courteous level with our investigator clients, and be able to manage

multiple projects simultaneously using good time management techniques.
In
addition, will work closely with other members of the laboratory in a
professional team environment. The individual will be able to trouble
shoot
technical problems and collaborate with investigators working in concert

with the laboratory director.

The individual will have good computer skills and show a working
knowledge
of word processing, spreadsheet, Internet browser, and e-mail software.
Familiarity with image analysis software a plus.   The individual will
be
required to have or will be develop a working knowledge of gross and
microscopic photography.  Experience in working with plastic embedding
and
sectioning techniques a plus.  The individual will be certified by the
American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) at either the technician
or
technologist level --- additional ASCP certifications as well as
experience
working under GLP a plus. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
