Hi, Tony,

My answer are:
1. No.
2. Yes
3. No (I don't use the Perl's stain at the moment)
4. No.

My comments are that if any of these are necessary for good practical reasons,
histotechs are sufficiently well trained and sensible to be able to perform the
tasks in a safe manner. Or if not they should be and the reason could be either
lack of training or lack of proper facilities both of which are management
responsibilties.

I have recently been involved in several safety issues that have got
several Australian Histotechs' Blood boiling.

Could I pose them to you and ask if you could answer them.
Of course any comments would be appreciated. Please email me directly
and I will post the results (no names published) on Histonet in a
weeks time.

Do you use a bunsen burner to heat forceps when you embed? ________
Do you use an embedding centre to embed ? _________
Do you use a 1% or 5% working solution of Potassium Ferrocyanide for
the Perl's stain? ___________
Do you use mercuric oxide in the preparation of Haematoxylin for your
routine H&E? ______________

Any comments:
