We have just implemented a sentinal node protocol here. For each block, we
cut 5 sections. 1,3,and 5 are stained with H&E. Sections 2 and 4 are
stained with cytokeratin. We have used the protocol 3 times, and each time
it has been a disaster!!!! Our pathologists don't seem to know what the
work "protocol" means!!! They have amended the protocol each time. I have
sent the original protocol back to the pathologists to refine. But this is
our starting point. I would be really interested to hear what others are
doing as well...perhaps I could offer some suggestions to our
pathologists!!!

Subject: SENTINAL NODE PROTOCOL
Help - looking for protocol for cutting sentinal nodes - what is
everyone
using as far as levels, etc. We are currently taking several levels
at the
beginning and then every 10 cuts until the block is exhausted. Is
there a
standard protocol or is it site specific? Please advise. Thanks,
