We have 4 microtomes, and we clean them EVERY day that they are used.  We 
remove all of the debris with a brush, then we spray it with paraguard, then 
wipe it with a paper towel.  After it is clean, it is then covered with it's 
cover.  I personally think that it is very important to take every precaution 
to keep your microtome clean to prevent contamination and it also keeps my 
microtome in GREAT condition.  I love my microtome.  I have an OLYMPUS cut 
4060.
