Biological supply companies sell dissecting pans with a layer of BLACK wax
in them. Unlike embedding wax, this wax is specifically designed to be
easily penetrated by pins. And you don't have to buy the whole pan. They
also sell the wax itself.  5 pounds for $12.50!
