I agree, de-stain in 1% Acid alcohol, then re-stain after washing in water
with AB
The nuclear stain shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Yes. There's no need to remove the hemalum nuclear
stain, because alcian blue attaches to things
other than nuclei and is a different colour. If
you do remove the H and E you can do a red nuclear
counterstain after alcian blue.
