Placenta
Cathy Stevens in Aurora (where?) notes again:
>>We do an average of 300 births a month and receive all placentas. If
certain criteria are met then they are micro'd. Otherwise they are embedded and
filed.<<
In other words, every yucky mess gets grossed - the time-consuming part - and
five or so blocks embedded but not cut? And the laboratory (and pathologist)
get to bill for a gross-only examination (88300) rather than for the full
examination (88307)? Who does the grossing in this arrangement, and is it done
well enough to stand up in court?
Indeed, I've seen this embed-only policy advocated before, but I've never
understood how you get paid for it.
