xylene problems

Dear Histonetters,

I would like to ask you a question about clearing the slides. I am staining them with Masson trichrome and when I try to clear colored slides wtih xylene (aftre alcohole) the colors are becoming very dark (even black) .

Can I do not clear them with xylene, but mount after dehydrating in alcohol?

Please help, I am first time in staining.
