of your message a bit amusing. 

As for bids from other vendors, that should be confidential information.
They don't need to know what instrument you are leaning towards.  Their
need to know could be a reason for NOT making any effort to work up a bid!
That's just business and part of their jobs regardless of final sale
outcome. Bashing other manufacturers' instrumentation is rather
unprofessional - Hmmm they would NOT like it if THEIR machines were bashed
by other vendors and a rather poor approach to making a final sale IF it
went in their favor.    
 
The experienced histo consumer should be able to make an educated decision
based on other users' satisfaction or dissatisfaction as you are doing now.
