Re: Rodent or primate brain matrices

Hi Nick,
I'm an old histotech and I we have one for a mouse and one for a rat. We
got them from the states from Activational Systems Inc. There is a number
on the mould (313) 756 1222, but not sure what this refers to. the Mouse
mould has a code RBM 2000C and the rat RBM-4000C. The problem with these is
that if the animal has a brain smaller than the mould size, then there is
movement and it is hard to cut the thin slices. However, the company does
supply a range of sizes but they are very expensive. Hope this helps.

My Path-o-logist has aked me to purchase and optimize a procedure using the
little mold that hold a standard animal brain, with these little slots you
can cut through certain parts of the brain(freehand) and then take those
sectionjs and use for FFPA or frozens. Looks like one of the boiled egg
slicer type things. Anyone in histoland have experience, an SOP, or a
source regarding this? This is new to this old histotech. Thanks.
