It also helps to thin the mounting media a bit more!  ARe you talking about
GMA sections?  If so, put a drop of mounting media on edge of slide, just
below GMA embedded section and mount coverslip by lowering it onto drop,
with a tidge of pressure to push the mounting media under coverglass.  

If you are coverslipping PMMA sections with PMMA still present, you will
crack the PMMA with mounting media solvent, giving ugly look to your
sections.   These can be viewed with a coverslip sitting on top of the
section but not permanently mounted.  The coverslip will correct for
refractive index at high power, and you will have nice sections for
photowork, etc.
