RE: Processing rat brain

From:Cynthia Favara

Not sure what you means by a floating section problem. I work with lots a
rodent brain tissue and think that adequate fixation is my biggest
nightmare. If the specimen is adequately fixed processing can vary depending
on your processor, number of stations etc. Problems I run into are when
investigators want to fix whole brain for 4 hours or less. Just does not do
the tissue justice. Try lowering temp of water bath, I usually float brain
sections on a bath about 3-5C cooler than for other tissues that have been
similarly processed.

My apologies for raising this old chestnut again but I would like to know
the details of a good schedule for processing rat brain slices. I have a
researcher with a floating section problem rather than the usual brittle
cutting.
