Billing questions 1 Immuno, 1 Cyto

From:Ross Stapf

Hello everyone:

I am relatively new to the superviser's position here, and Administration and I are finally discussing billing and there is some confusion as to what the correct billing is for a few things. I encourage those from Maryland to reply as our state sometimes does things differently.

1. If you have multiple orders for the same immuno on a case, can you bill for them? We currently use a system setting in our LIS which allows for only one stain billed per specimen. In other words, an ACSM on blocks 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A, 2B, and 2C would only be billed for 2 ACSM's not 6.

2. For Cytology, how would you bill for a case which the fluid was spun down and 1 Cell Block, 2 smears, and 2 Cytospins were performed?

Thanks in advance. Sorry if this has been covered before. I vaguely remember the immuno discussion from when I was on histonet 3 years ago. I wasn't superviser then, so it didn't have a real meaning for me and I didn't retain the information.
