Re: diskette for testing

From:Lee & Peggy Wenk <lpwenk@mail.netquest.com>

As far as I know, it has not been available for several years.

It was DOS based, so there were problems with people using it. I,
for one, never saw a question with any diagrams. And that's with
my students using it, so we went through the questions several times.
Now, with our new computer, we can go through the 50 questions in
the set, but it won't let us review the answers, so we don't know
if the student got them right or not. I was told by our computer
people that this is because the disk is "old technology", and
doesn't work well with the newer PCs.

Unfortunately, the new book doesn't have a disk either. DOS vs.
Windows, PC vs. Mac, 2 years and it's considered old, etc. were
probably some of the factors.

So your best bet would be to see if someplace like Amazon.com
can find an old copy. OR some Histonetter is willing to sell/give
you their old copy.

Frankly, I'm looking forward to seeing the new version. I had
problems with the old version. Some questions had 2 correct
answers. Some, I didn't agree with the answers. Some of the
procedures I never found in any book - talk about esoteric!
Almost all the questions were Taxonomy I, which are the
simple memorize/recall. No problem-solving or trouble-shooting
questions, which ARE found on both the HT and HTL exams,
and which most people need practice with.

It was the first time ASCP Board of Registry published a
study book for people taking the HT/HTL exams, and it
was a good start. But I have high hopes for the second
edition. Freida Carson was working on it, and she told
me that she's added the problem-solving and trouble-shooting
questions. Plus there are Color plates!

I've already ordered a copy for the School. I'll let Histonetters
know my students' and my opinion when we receive it.

  Subject: diskette for testing

I would like to know if anybody knows how to get a diskette that used to
accompany the ASCP Histology examination book. We have a couple of techs.
that are getting ready to take their HT exam and would be great if they
could practice with the exams that the diskette provide. We tried it
through the ASCP and the diskette is no longer available with the book.
Thank you.
