I just read an article about a discussion that was at the Region II meeting
about voting, on that histotechs should be required to have certain number of
continuing education credits per year to keep their HT(ASCP) current and that
employers should require that of their Histotechs.
Copied from the article is the following.
A committee was formed to draft a letter to present this idea before the
House of Delegates at the NSH meeting in North Carolina. So, if you want your
voice heard on this topic. please be sure you are present at your Region
meeting and your representative is at the House of Delegates in N.C.
I am not saying this is not a good idea. Just that some of us can't go to
these meeting. If NSH has a few more mail classes like the Techsample , To
which I do buy each year and fulfill this idea wouldn't be too bad. My
employer, the Government doesn't recognize my HT (ASCP) . My title is Bio Lab
Tech. I was told if I was called a Histologist they would have to pay me more
money. I am afraid that if we are required to attend different CEU training's
to keep our ASCP then my employer will tell me no. Because I am not required
to have my HT for the histology job I do there.
This is just my thought.
Thank you
