Many thanks to all who made helpful comments with regards to my difficulties
with Schiff's stain for the Feulgen reaction, particularly Alton Floyd, John
Kiernan, and Russ Allison.  I was able to successfully troubleshoot the
procedure using commercial stain (it was a 'bad' control slide, overfixed in
Davidson's AFA).  Now I will work on successfully formulating my own stain.
