LuAnn,
Do you use hi profile or low profile blades? Are yours teflon coated?

I've been using Surgipath's blades (low profile and teflon coated) on my
Leica 2145 microtome and I can't say i LOVE them, but they work well. I
can cut about 4 to 6 blocks before having to move the knife to a fresh spot
and I can get about 3 spots on each knife, so that's between 12-18 blocks
per knife, but that's all dependent upon how tough the tissue is. REally
tough tissues I don't get that much use per knife.
