To anyone out there taking the ASCP HT or HTL
exam --

I've had 3 people recently contact me, asking
the same question.

The NEW directions for the practical portion state:
Blocks are to be turned in as indicated.

However, no where in the practical packet does
it indicate WHICH blocks to turn in.

There is a statement that says not to turn in
blocks for stains/tissues for micro-organisms,
amyloid or frozen sections.

But nothing anywhere that says YES, turn in
these three blocks, or YES, just send in the
block for the H&E.

I've contacted ASCP Board of Registry, and
was told that ALL BLOCKS MUST BE TURNED IN,
except for the micro-organism, amyloid or FS
blocks. (What would ASCP do with 600 blocks
of AFB?)

All blocks have ALWAYS had to be turned in,
and continue to need to be turned in.

A bag for the blocks is sent with the packet.
So put ALL the blocks in the bag.

Hope this helps those of you working on the
practical exams. Good luck.

(Just think of it as a histotech rite of passage.)
