I used to use AEC exclusively, but now we use DAB for most of our routine IP slides. We use DAKO's AEC+ and it works beautifully. It is ready to use, permanent, you don't need to protect it from alcohol and clearing reagents, and it provides excellent staining definition, especially for CD antigens. I still use AEC for many of my infectious disease antibodies where I need a high contrasting signal from that of endogenous pigments (which can resemble DAB reactivity).

p.s. However, after saying all of the above, I still think AEC produces the prettiest IP slides!
