Research Assistant/Research Associate - Necropsy Specialist

Description:
This individual will primarily support necropsy activities for the
Pathology Department and for other investigators which do not require
pathologic examination.  This individual will also carry out
experimental studies designed and directed by the department.  The
primary responsibilities of this position include:  performing
necropsies on various species, assisting with blood collections,
performing perfusion techniques, using anesthesia and euthanasia
techniques according to company guidelines, utilizing gross photograhic
skills and freezing animals and sectioning for whole body cryotomy.
Secondary responsibilities include:  completing experiments using
various species of laboratory animals, dosing, applying a variety of
surgical techniques and collecting tissues using a variety of fixatives
or freezing tissues and trimming tissues for histology.


Requirements:
The successful candidate will have extensive prior experience and
applied knowledge of animal model development and of necropsy
techniques.  A BS degree in life sciences with 2-3 years of necropsy
experience is preferred but an AA with a minimum of 2-5 years necropsy
experience is acceptable.  Excellent communication, organization and
problem-solving skills are essential for this position.  Must be able to
lift 25 lbs.  Presenting data in group and departmental meetings is
required.  The position commands willingness and enthusiasm for learning
new methods and techniques, including sectioning for whole body cryotomy.
