Jim
In the absence of any guidelines on microtomy ergonomics I would have
thought it useful to perform a risk assessment based loosely on the
principles applied to VDU operators.
The main questions would seem to be:
Is the operator adopting a comfortable and relatively natural position?
and
Is the operator able to interrupt the repetitive element of the work
practice with other duties and/or breaks?
For the latter, tasks such as slide labelling, slide sorting and
racking, machine loading, block sorting and cooling are all potential
diversions.
Best wishes
