Research histology position available at Genentech, Inc., in South San
Francisco, CA.

Research Assistant/Associate - Histotechnician or Histotechnologist

Description:
Provide technical expertise and support as a histotechnologist.  Must
have demonstrated knowledge of and skills in all standard histologic
procedures including:  processing, embedding, sectioning, staining and
equipment maintenance.  In addition to these standard skills, the
successful candidate will be experienced and highly competent in more
specialized techniques such as cryotomy, plastic processing, enzyme
histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and microautoradiography.  Must
also be willing to learn and support whole body cryotomy projects.

In addition to routine study processing, there is a high percentage of
projects requiring technique/method development.  These projects, in
particular, require extensive communication and close work with
co-workers (other histotechnologists, pathologists and investigators).
Flexibility in working hours is also sometimes necessary.

Requirements:
AA or BS degree in the life sciences and HT or HTL (ASCP) certification
required.  Expertise in histotechnique, microscopy and a thorough
knowledge of immunohistochemistry.  Excellent communication,
organization and problem-solving skills (including mathematical
calculations).  Must be willing to present data in group and
departmental meetings.  The capacity to work effectively both
independently and within a team and the ability to manage multiple
projects is a must.
