Contact hours are awarded for time actually spent in a course or subject.
Credit hours are historically given on meeting X hours/weekly, etc over a
specific period of time ie., quarter mester, semester, etc. For example, to
earn 3 credit hours a course would meet 3 lecture hours weekly for a semester.
A lab course would consider 3 contact hours as equivalent to one credit hour.
therefore, a 3 hr credit would involve 48 contact lecture hours in a 16 week
period. A 5 hour credit could involve 3 hrs lecture with 2 hours lab
meaning 48
contact lecture hours and 6 hrs weekly times 16 for laboratory credit.
There is
a difference...sharon Osborn
