Tim,
Thioflavin for amyloid. Did you mean thioflavin T?
My belief was that both dyes had been used microscopically, "S"
[Direct yellow 7] mostly for staining blood vessels and similar and
"T" [Basic yellow 1] for viruses.
The reference for amyloid I believe to be:
Vassar PS, Culling CFA. Fluorescent stains with special reference to
amyloid and connective tissues. 1959. Arch Pathol.68;487-498.
