Since sometimes it is difficult to adjust the pH of hematoxylin, make some tests by adding 10 mL of acetic / litre of hematox. If the mucin is still blue add another 10 mL until you get to the staining hues you like. Remember that hematoxylin is a pH indicator in itself.
