Eileen:
  Bacteria can grow on any stored water or buffer solutions and this includes the container itself and the tubbing used with the container.
  Weekly thorough cleaning of the containers, and regular replacement of the tubbing usualy prevent the bacteria to grow and contaminate your slides.
