Help with GMS

From:Noreen Gilman

I've got a problem with our GMS's that I need help with. We have been using a modification that uses Periodic Acid instead of Chromic Acid. Our controls come out beautifully, but the patient doesn't take the silver. Our doc says he KNOWS that their are organisms there, but they just are not staining. I believe these are immunocompromised patients who have been treated and that's why the organisms aren't staining. Should we leave the patient in the silver solution longer than the control, until the organisms are stained or what Any suggestions and hep would be appreciated.
