I have used the Epson Perfection 1640 Photo scanner for EM negatives (Kodak 4489 film, 3.25x4 inch) with good results. The 2450 is even better from what I have heard. I know several professional photographers who use the 2450 to scan medium format film (120 size, 6cmx6cm negatives) and enlarge the image to 11"x14".
    If you need high resolution from 35 mm film, a dedicated film scanner might be a better choice. We have an older Polaroid Sprint Scan for 35 mm film. The maximum resolution is 2700 dpi which is more than enough.

Since it will also scan negatives and produce positive immages, I was wondering whether it could scan Electron Microscope negatives as well. This would save a good deal of effort and money in enlarging and printing onto photographic paper.
