Tony, 
if we do as you suggest, how will we distinguish from commercial
formalin (10%) and formaldehyde solutions containing trace amounts of
methanol? I believe that when individuals refer to 4% paraformaldehyde
they are trying to indicate methanol-free formaldehyde

paraformaldehyde".

Could I recommend that we remove the para from 4% paraformaldehyde
solutions. 

Paraformaldehyde is a powder. 

In solution it becomes formaldehyde.
