I've used 3% v/v ammonia to soften hard to cut skin and to take the static out of tissue containing a lot of blood for a few years now. Cheaper and works faster than Molliflex.
I put a piece of towel or flannel sheet in a rectangular Tupperware container (with a lid to control the ammonia fumes), flood with dilute ammonia and soak the blocks about 10 minutes, then transfer to an ice block flooded with water.
Don't leave the blocks much longer than 10 minutes or the tissue will start to swell.
