infiltrating with vacuum under the hood

From:Cathy Mayton

One word of caution!!  Infiltrating at room temperature must be done carefully because sometimes the polymer will spontaneously polymerize leaving you will one massive block, making you a very unhappy camper.  You did not say which plastic you were using but you may want to pull vacuum on the dessicator and then place the dessicator in the refrigerator which will slow down the polymerization process.  The dessicator can be released and vacuum pulled again several times during the day by just putting your vacuum pump next to the refrigerator.  At the VA in Salt Lake we had house vacuum on the wall next to the refrigerator.  We drilled a hole in the side of the refrigerator and passed a hose through the refrigerator wall to multiple vacuum dessicators.

Hope this helps,
Cathy
