I use both rat, mouse, human and ferret tissue which is fixed in 4% 
formaldehyde.  For cutting frozen sections I cryprotect the tissue in 30% 
sucrose/PBS overnight , then freeze the tissue onto the chuck with 
tissuetek.  This gives good morphology, but takes a little longer than the way 
you are currently doing it.
