Substitute acetone. 1-3 seconds for the differentiation step
after the crystal violet-iodine.

Other alternatives
- Cellosolve for 1-3 seconds
- 100% ethanol (regent/denatured OK) should work, too, but you may have
to extend the time for an extra second or two.
