I believe the most current reference (I have a reprint of it) is Dixon ME, 
Genta RM, Yardley JH, Correa P. Classification and grading of gastritis: the 
updated Sydney System. Am J Surg Pathol 1996;20-1161-1181.

It is cited as if it were the most current update in the letters to the 
editor in last week's New England Journal of Medicine (2002;346:66).
