I've never used anything but distilled water for IHC so I cannot say if
you must use dH20.  Any implications of using any other water or any other
treated water are implications you will have to ferret out in your own
lab.  If you have contamination (what are the ear marks?), the problem may
be in your own carboy or in the water that comes to your still.  Recall
that deionizing columns do not remove phenols and other evils and that
stills always have some carry over.

So we get back to what folk upriver (or up ground water) are putting in
your water or that your carboy needs a little chlorox or the problem is
something else entirely.  Unless your water is grossly polluted, you
should look to some other source of the evil.  Are there any Republicans
involved?
