RE: Glycerol rehydration of FNA's

From:Terry.Marshall@rgh-tr.trent.nhs.uk

I have never come across rehydration using glycerol. (What does it do?)

Using normal (physiological(0.9%)) saline, immersion for 60 secs (some say less) works very well.
After "time's up", remove the smear, flick the saline off and immediately wet fix. It works well *and* gets rid of blood.

Subject: Glycerol rehydration of FNA's

Does anyone have a procedure for rehydrating air-dried
Fine Needle Aspirates using glycerol? In the Histonet
Archives, it was mentioned that a 50% glycerol
solution could be used to rehydrate cells so that they
regain their dye penetrablility for Pap staining. How
long should the air-dried slides be left in the
glycerol solution in order to rehydrate them?

Thanks!
