Jennifer,  I use disposable microtome blades because they are longer and sharp
enough to get a smooth cut.  The thickness varies a little but I have never
found it to be a problem.  Do you submit the entire gland?  I only submit
random samples from right and left and save the rest for possible regross.  So
far I only have to submit more tissue about 5% of the time.
