Try DAB-Cobalt (we use the Histomark Black Kit), followed by a counterstain
of
Mayer's Hx for 30 sec.
blue in running tap 3 min.
70% EtOH 6 dips
eosin Y - phloxine B 2 min.
95% EtOH 1 dip
2 changes 100% EtOH 3 min. ea.
xylene
Permount
DAB is black, nuclei dark blue-purple
Hope this helps.

Subject: DAB and H&E counterstain
Hi all,
We have a researcher requesting IHC and H&E on the same slide (trying to
save money). We are using DAB, then trying to counterstain with H&E, and
as expected the DAB is drowned out by the eosin. Could anybody share a
method of doing this? Would adding Nickle to the DAB help? Thanks in
advance for all your good advice.
