Hi,

We have a different automatic stainer but we may have had a similar problem.
Our dark junk was on top of our tissue as well as around it. It turned out
to be bacteria on the slide from the waterbaths on the instrument. The
hematoxylin was staining them.

It happened because a little bit of water remains in the dishes overnight.
It only happened on the first couple of racks. After that the system must
have cleaned out.

If it is only happening on the first racks you stain this may be your
problem. We took the following steps: We ran a program first thing in the
morning which cleared out the lines before we started staining. We continue
to do our regular PM of using bleach to keep the drains cleans but upped it
to two times a week. We purchased a second set of waterbath dishes so we can
put one set in the dishwasher at night. (I know they are not supposed to go
in the dishwasher, but we do it anyone without problems.)

Good luck,
Marg

Recently we have been getting black junk on our slides. We use a Sakura 601
automatic stainer. We stain about 600 slides a day. It does not seem to be
on
the tissue just around it. We change our hematoxylin three times a week and
chang all other solutions daily. We do recycle the xylene. We use tap water
in our baths. If you have any suggestions Please help.
